A Call to Action for CARA 2015

CARA 2015 is the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act of 2015. It is the most expansive bipartisan federal legislation for addictive support services to date. It will save the lives of countless people by designating between $40 and $80 million to advancing treatment and recovery support services in state and local communities nationwide. The bill was first introduced in September of 2014 and reintroduced in February of 2015. It needs your help in order to pass. We will talk about how you can help in a bit, but I would like for you to know why it is important first.
To do that, let’s look at just a little of what CARA 2015 provide funding for:

1.      Recovery Community Organizations - provide recovery services, conduct public education/outreach and strengthen the network of community support
2.      National Youth Initiative – build communities of support for young people in recovery in high school and higher education
3.      Save Lives with Overdose Response – Educate and make naloxone available to t hose responding to overdoses
4.      Women, Families and Veterans – Funding of women’s recovery services, veterans treatment courts, treatment and a  national education campaign

This is just a small sample of the positive things that will be done if CARA passes. Unfortunately, it currently only has a 3% chance of being passed as of right now according to govtrack.us (https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/114/hr953). This is a travesty of the largest proportions. We have an ability to address the current opiate epidemic, save lives and give hope that recovery is not only possible but amazing to those who have not yet found recovery and it is currently being rejected.

Can you imagine what funding more prevention and early intervention programs could do for our youth?

Think about the hope we could give to those who have not yet found recovery with more recovery community organizations?

This does not have to be a dream.

With your help, it WILL be a reality!!

Help us reach out to our politicians and let them know this is a bill we care about! Faces and Voices of Recovery is asking everyone to call their Senators and House Representatives on Wednesday, April 29th to let them know how important it is for them to support CARA 2015.
