Meth PSA

I had an opportunity to do a Public Service Announcement (PSA) last year that played on a couple of television affiliates for a local anti-methamphetamine organization started by the Rotary Club in Springfield, MO. Don't Meth with Us began working with 5th grade students locally and has expanded across the state, becoming Don't Meth with Missouri. With this initiative they are trying to reduce the number of youth who begin using.

I believe wholeheartedly in what they are doing, which is prevention and early intervention at a young age. Currently the average age for substance use is in the 12-13 year age range. If we wait much longer than the 5th grade, they have not only been introduced to it, they are quite possibly already using. We need to have more education, and this is a step in the right direction.

I am very glad to  have had an opportunity to share a little bit of my past and some of my passion for the future. I continue to be humbled by the opportunities that have come to me in long-term recovery. Only through sharing our strength, experience and hope with others can we truly step out of abstinence and in to recovery.

Please, feel free to share this with others. I hope it gives hope to someone who is still struggling, encourages someone who has overcame and trying to figure out what comes next and comforts someone who cares about someone still in the grips of their addiction. Don't give up because there truly is a BETTER LIFE IN RECOVERY!
